I’m obsessed with celebrity fashion (thanks to my favorite gay uncles, Tom and Lorenzo), and recently I noticed several celebrities parading the red carpets wearing high-octane prairie dresses from The Vampire’s Wife:
I’ve never considered myself a boho girl, but there is something that calls to me about their dresses (especially the first one) - maybe it’s the juxtaposition of shiny modern fabrics with girlish ruffles. Or maybe I just secretly want to join a religious cult.
It’s my mission to make a dress inspired by the pink and black dress on Thandie Newton. Luckily, McCalls just released a pattern with the exact silhouette and ruffle details: McCall’s 8032, a.k.a. the Blythe.
As for fabric, this purple metallic brocade from Mood Fabrics is a pretty close match to the fabric in Thandie’s dress:
I’m also thinking of making a practical everyday version of this dress in a cotton fabric. For example, I am loving these vintage-looking floral prints:
