Case Study: Mica’s Award-Show Suit
Mica came to me because she wanted something exceptional to wear to an awards show — she had been nominated for Best Actress in a play, and she wanted a suit that felt as bold and meaningful as the moment itself. Off-the-rack options weren’t working: nothing fit her curves cleanly, and nothing came in the vibrant color she envisioned. She wanted something crisp, modern, and unmistakably hers.
We designed a three-piece brick red suit in a wool-blend twill suiting: a single-breasted jacket with a classic lapel and patch pockets, slightly bootcut trousers, and a coordinating vest for a touch of panache. The color — rich, warm, and saturated — was the standout element, chosen to complement her pale skin beautifully under stage lighting.
To achieve the clean, sculptural fit she wanted, I began by creating a muslin, refining the balance, shaping, and proportions before cutting into the final fabric.
Once the fit was perfected, the interior tailoring began — the invisible work that gives a custom suit its structure and presence. Inside the jacket, I added hair canvas to stabilize the fabric and added a chest piece (to support the upper torso). I then hand-sewed lots of little tiny stitches (i.e. padstitches) that adhered the canvas to the outer fabric and formed the lapel. The final touch was sewing in some twill tape, which helps the lapel maintain a crisp, permanent, and perfectly shaped roll and helps ensure that the edge of the jacket stays nice and crisp. For additional support, I added a back stay, which helps shape the upper back of the jacket, and inserted sleeve heads to create a clean shoulder line. Shaping was done through careful steam and pressing to give the wool its final, fluid architecture.
The result was a suit that hugged her curves without restricting her movement — sleek, modern, and deeply personal. When she tried it on, she did a little dance in my studio, the color glowing against her skin.
Mica wore the suit to the awards ceremony looking exactly as she hoped: poised, confident, and fully herself — honoring a milestone moment in her career with a piece created just for her.

My suits are made specifically for women’s proportions and silhouettes. Instead of altering a ready-made garment, I:
take detailed measurements
shape the garment for your proportions and posture
adjust every major fit point (shoulders, bust, waist, hip, balance)
refine the silhouette based on your movement and preferences
customize style lines and detailing
This is not off-the-rack tailoring or standard alterations — it’s custom suiting that prioritizes your fit, comfort, and aesthetic.

Clients often tell me:
“I can’t get a jacket to fit my shoulders and bust at the same time.”
“Women’s suits in stores look too boxy on me.”
“I want a suit that feels sculptural and modern — not traditional officewear.”
“I need a suit for work or a special event that feels intentional and pulled together.”
“I want trousers that actually fit my waist and hips cleanly.”
If any of these resonate, custom suiting is likely the right choice.

“Do you make men’s suits?”
No. I specialize in women’s suiting.“How is this different from alterations?”
Alterations modify an existing garment. Custom suiting is built for you from the start — every major fit point and style line is shaped around your proportions and preferences.“What if I don’t know exactly what style I want?”
That’s completely fine. I guide you through options and help clarify a silhouette that feels right for your body and personal style.“How long does the process take?”
Most suits take 4–8 weeks, depending on fittings and construction details.“Do you design suits for special events or weddings?”
Yes. I create suits for professional settings, weddings, formal events, and personal milestones.
